The Babyn Yar Massacre: Geolocating History and Memory in a Changing Landscape

My next presentation will be at Clark University, Worcester MA on November 8, 2024, entitled: “The Babyn Yar Massacre: Geolocating History and Memory in a Changing Landscape.”

In this presentation I will explore the events at Babyn Yar through the prism of a German aerial photograph taken in September 1943. By exploring a digital version of the ravine seen from the air, it is possible to trace the route taken by the Jews from Kyiv to Babyn Yar in September 1941 and observe traces of the exhumation work conducted by Sonderkommando 1005 two years later.
